だが、実のところ、自分の才能を生かして何かやりとげたい、と思ってる人はそんなにいない。少なくも皆が皆そうではあるまい。とりたてて実現されるべき自 己などもともと持ち合わせていないのがむしろ当たり前である。多くの人間は、自分を嫌わないでほしい、存在を認めてほしい、という程度のものしか持ち合わ せていないし必要としもしない。作家だって、最初は何か表現したいものもあったればこそ、書き続けるについちゃあ読者や編集者の欲望がむしろメインの駆動 力だろう。
　アンの世界には闇がない。が「闇」やどぎつい描写や正視しがたい何者かを抉り出す（「リアル」だとか何だとかいって）ことが、文学的価値として称揚され続けるかぎり、ついていくのは疲れる人々によって、アンという作品は支持され続けるだろう、云々。
